Advice For Student Accommodation In Durham

Accommodation for Students Durham

Durham is a great place for students. In fact, there are over 17,000 students registered at Durham Uni. Durham University is based on two campuses in the City and also Queens Campus in Stockton. The Durham Campus is spread over 14 Colleges around the City Centre all within around 10-15 minutes walks from the City Centre. Both campuses offer student accommodation within their respective halls of residence, although first year students are favoured when allocating accommodation for students at Durham University just like at most other Universities.

Finding Student Homes In Durham

Those that live-in at University normally have the greatest student experiences so whichever University you attend, you will need to find student accommodation near Durham for your second year, even if you do get halls for the first year.

It is highly recommended that you start looking for second year accommodation for students in Durham early Between November and January of your first year. Good houses for students in Durham are snapped up early, just like in any other University City. The pick of the student property around the City Centre will go quickly. If you do leave it until Spring or Summer to search for student accommodation in, you may find you can get some better deals on the available student accommodation, however generally you will find that the student rooms to rent in Durham are generally smaller than those available to let in November and January. It would normally be wise to sort your second year student accommodation in Durham as early as possible.

Looking at houses for students in Durham as early as possible will give you the greatest choices. You really don't want to be picking up your student homes in Durham at the end of the last term of the year or your choice will be limited, generally to the student property in Durham that all the others have decided against. However, we must say, that even though your choice of property will be limited, you will often find there are better deals for student property at the end of the student letting season.

Sharing Houses For Students Near Durham

Most houses for students in Durham are set up by the landlord to accommodate several people. When you are thinking about your accommodation very often you will get together with a group of friends to share the same student homes in Durham. You need to be aware that, generally, the tenancy agreement will make you jointly liable for the rent and bills. This means that if someone opts out of renting during your tenancy then you may have higher costs than anticipated for your student accommodation in Durham. If you decide to take any property through NMR Lettings, we encourage all our students to take out an energy contract with us, this will allow students living together in student property in Durham to make one single payment for all their bills, including gas, electric, water, TV licence and internet all in the same monthly or quarterly payment.

All NMR Lettings tenancies allow you to be flexible with tenants on the contract. For example, if someone opts out of the contract at any point, they can be replaced with another tenant in your student property in Durham. Some tenancy agreements prevent you from doing this and it is wise to check the small print before you agree to rent your student homes in Durham.
